Waste Busting with Frozen Food

Frozen Food Saves you Money

The survey shows that more than 50% of UK adults agree to price being the deciding factor when choosing foods since the financial downturn

** with nearly three in five agreeing that they would buy more fruit and vegetables if they were cheaper.*** So, we would like to remind consumers of benefits of purchasing frozen fruit and vegetables:

  • Products are frozen at their peak of quality – locking in freshness, taste, nutrients and minerals. Some frozen vegetables hold higher levels of vitamins than 'fresh'
  • Frozen fruit and vegetables are good value for money – it doesn’t go off, so it won’t end up in the bin nearly as often at its ‘fresh’ equivalent.
  • Freezing lets you use as much or as little as you want – cutting down on waste and helping you manage portion sizes.
  • Freezing allows for seasonal products to be made available all year long with prices that are fixed until the next crop.
  • Freezing is a natural process – there’s no need for the preservatives that are found in chilled, ambient or ‘fresh’ foods.
  • Frozen fruit and vegetables are convenient for any busy lifestyle as they require no preparation prior to cooking.

Frozen Food holds more Vitamins

Harley Street Nutritionist and BFFF spokesperson, Yvonne Bishop-Weston says...

“Including frozen fruit and vegetables is a simple way to get your five-a-day without breaking the bank. Not only do frozen foods offer great value for money, they are also packed with nutritional benefits which can be equal to and sometimes greater than their equivalents sold fresh. Evidence has shown that two days after picking, spinach has already lost 75% of its vitamin C. This loss is reduced to less than 20% when it is frozen. For instance, a bag of frozen leaf spinach, which can be bought at your favourite supermarket for sometimes as little as a pound, is more nutrient rich and longer lasting than it’s fresh alternative. Frozen vegetables can indeed be a great way to afford a healthy and balanced diet during this time of economic hardship.”
