Your children’s’ bodies need nourishment – the best way of giving them this is by feeding them lots of fruit and vegetables. Fruit and veg are full of vital goodness and frozen food ensures you get vitamins and nutrients – because the freezing process naturally locks in the minerals and vitamins giving you year-round access to these vital food groups.

You could serve chicken and chips. You might be thinking that chips are not healthy, but you can get low fat chips. Did you know? Frozen oven chips can have more nutrients than home made chips cut from fresh potatoes. That’s because they are frozen so quickly at their peak of quality, they retain their goodness. And frozen chips are for baking – not deep pan frying so they use a lot less fat. Oven chips can be 95% fat free!

Five a Day

A good balance of fruit and veg helps you to lower the risk of heart disease

The Department of Health advises you to eat five portions of fruit and veg a day, (to make up one third of your daily food intake). Frozen food is a good way to acheive your 5 a Day and a great way of having more fruit and veg into your daily meal plan. Fruit and veg can also hep reduce the risk of strokes; it reduces blood pressure and also stops some cancers.

Less waste

Using frozen food reduces the amount of food you throw away.

Not only can frozen be just as nutritious as fresh, but buying frozen also means that you can buy in bulk and know that the frozen food will not spoil. Recent surveys have found that 30% of fresh food is wasted!

By keeping frozen fruit and veg, you will always have nutritious food at hand without having to run to the shop to stock up. Making frozen fruit and veg a staple part of your diet can also help you save money, as frozen products are available at cheaper prices throughout the year!

Mix it up a little!

You know what they say about variety!

When you are shopping make sure to remember that variety is as important as quantity. No single fruit or veg will provide you every nutrient needed to keep healthy. So, embrace choice and try as many different coloured fruits and vegetables as possible.

Frozen fruit and veg are frozen at their peak of quality and the nutrients are locked in as a result. Fresh produce can be 10 days old before hitting your basket and this means valuable nutrients are lost. For instance, evidence has shown that two days after picking, spinach has already lost 75% of its vitamin C. This loss is reduced to less than 20% when it is frozen!
