Is it all right to roast a chicken from frozen?
Generally, this is highly unadvisable. Frozen chicken must be properly defrosted before it is cooked the same as other meat and poultry because the meat must cook at the same rate and be cooked thoroughly throughout. Ensure your chicken is completely defrosted by feeling for ice crystals inside the cavity of the bird. If ice crystals are still present, the bird is not defrosted yet. You can also test thicker parts of the meat with a fork to see if it feels frozen. Click here for more info on defrosting frozen chicken.
There is however one exception to this rule! Some frozen foods and frozen meals are now designed to be cooked from frozen. The frozen ready meal market is now one of the most exciting and forward looking in the market. Iceland, for example, have released a new range of joints to be cooked from frozen.
