I have some frozen vac-pacs that are between 2-3 years old. Are they unsafe to eat? Is it the taste that is bad with old frozen or are there health dangers?
Hello, thank you for your frozen food question. Without knowing what the items were that were flat, vac packed it is difficult to answer your question. Was it meat, vegetables, fish or something else that was vac-packed in your freezer? We have a section devoted to the storage times of different frozen foods and you can see that they all last for different times. There are even sub divisions within each food type, for example white fish lasts even longer than oily fish when frozen. However, it does sound like you have been packaging your frozen food correctly to ensure that it lasts as long as possible. Vacuum packing your foods minimizes the air contact with them and this keeps the moisture in and reduces the risk of freezer burn.
