Hi there, if I have defrosted a chicken breast at room temperature today, in a food bag, will it be safe for me to eat tomorrow night. This will be 32 hours later. Obviously I would put it in the fridge tonight. Imogen.

Hi Imogen, thanks for your question. When it comes to defrosting frozen chicken, and other frozen meats, we recommend to defrost it in your fridge overnight. Alternatively you can defrost it in a leak proof plastic bag immersed in cold water, or if you are really short for time in your microwave. Thawing frozen foods at room temperature is not advised as this creates an environment where potentially harmful bacteria can develop. For more info and tips on how to defrost frozen chicken have a look at our defrosting frozen food guide on theNewIceAge.com. We also have a page designed to answer this question specifically – how to defrost frozen chicken safely. When frozen food has thawed, it is recommended to store it in the fridge for no more than 24 hours before cooked.
