Frozen Food Sales Increase

Frozen food UK sales grow by 7% year on year despite recession

According to the latest data from TNS Worldpanel the retail frozen food market is now within touching distance of the £5 billion mark.

The market continues to accelerate in growth and now enjoys an impressive 7.0% annual growth rate. Brian Young, Director-General of The British Frozen Food Federation (BFFF) says, “The frozen food market has been in accelerating growth since December 2006 – long before the credit crunch began. However, as consumers continue to recognise frozen as a good value food source, sales are expected to increase.” Young went on to say, “Frozen foods meet the needs of any busy household as it is convenient, economical, nutritious and tasty. We are excited that more people than ever are now visiting the frozen food freezer aisle in order to take advantage of the great value of frozen food."

The increase in the frozen food market is being felt across eight out of nine sectors. As reported by TNS Worldpanel these sectors are experiencing an accelerated growth while the ninth sector is only down marginally. It is also true that the retailers who either specialise in or commit greater space in their stores to frozen food are doing particularly well in these difficult times. Young believes that the promotional activities being lead by the industry’s leading frozen food brands along with the launch of this website are all helping to increase awareness and popularity of frozen foods.
