Your frozen food... where does it come from?

The technology of freezing food has improved dramatically in recent years and it is now possible to freeze fish, meat and vegetables in a matter of minutes. The end result is often 'fresher', better quality and a more nutritious product than its 'fresh' equivalent – as 'fresh' foods can take a week to get the the shop shelves.

It's important that the 'fresh-to-frozen' process is properly documented from beginning to end - and here our independent 'field operatives' have a vital part to play in informing you about what goes on behind the scenes of frozen foods.

Watch our field operatives at work

Our Field Operatives visit frozen food manufacturing sites in order to document the story of frozen foods. You can see exactly where your frozen food comes from by watching the work of our field operatives on their specially made videos, or by reading a report of their experiences. See below what Suzannah and Nick have discovered so far.

Meet our field operatives

Here is where you can meet our field operatives and find out more about their site visits through watching their videos, viewing their pictures and reading their field diaries.

Could you be our next field operative?

All our field operatives are members of the general public who have freely volunteered their time to visit and document the fresh-to-frozen process at UK manufacturing sites. They were recruited through advertisements posted on the internet. Perhaps, if you are interested in knowing where your food comes from, you could become one too?
