Can I freeze my leftover gravy?

You certainly can Scott, as long as it is constantly stored at 0°F it will be safe. It is recommended to keep frozen gravy for 2-3 months in the freezer as the quality suffers with lengthy freezer storage. As with the freezing of all cooked foods, ensure that the food has cooled properly before freezing. If you freeze your frozen food correctly it can store for long periods of time. However, a home freezer is designed to store pre-packaged frozen meals we buy they are not as good at freezing the food you cook at home. Pre-packaged frozen meals and frozen ready meals are frozen using a process  which is different to that of your home freezer. Frozen meals are quickly flash frozen and so this seals in the nutrients. Home freezers don't freeze foods quickly enough and so larger ice crystals are formed in the frozen food and this damages the texture. Because frozen food products and frozen ready meals keep their vitamins, nutrients and texture because they are frozen effectively.

Frozen ready meals can also save on the family budget. Few of the ingredients in frozen foods spoil so the manufacturers do not need to charge you, the consumer, for the food that spoils! It is estimated that up to 30% of our food is wasted in the UK so frozen food is a solution to this.
