What are the dangers to eating ice cream that has thawed and been refrozen?
That’s a very good question. When frozen food is defrosted, bacteria start to form in the food as it does in all sorts of food regardless of preservation method – ‘flash’ freezing stops this process until you decide to thaw the frozen product. So, refreezing ice cream that has been thawed would have allowed bacteria to start multiplying. Not to mention that the ice cream would not taste as nice second time around! Have a look at our section on safely defrosting frozen food. Always remember, once food has thawed, it should be treated as chilled goods, and stored in the fridge.
Hope this information is useful.
