My freezer defrosted and all my soft fruit has thawed. If I cooked it and then refroze it would it be safe, thanks

Thank you for your question!

There are a variety of factors affecting the safety of your thawed fruit. My understanding of the events you have described is that the soft fruits could have been thawed in the freezer for some time? If so the fruits will have been open to bacteria growth, which could potentially make them unsafe to eat. Another factor to consider would be the amount time between the soft fruit being picked and being frozen, which is unknown.

Slow cooking or stewing your defrosted fruit for long periods can help destroy any bacteria but if your defrosted fruit is not cooked immediately we recommend throwing it away. Using frozen food will normally allow you to reduce food wastage but unfortunately not on this occasion! To prevent this from happening in the future check out the variety of frozen fruit in the freezer section ofyour local supermarket!
