I've opened my freezer today and it is cold, but all the packages have frosting on the outside. Why is this?

Hi, and thanks for you question about looking after your freezer. Perhaps somebody left the lid off for a while or perhaps the seal is broken on your freezer? It sounds like moisture has entered the freezer and frozen on top of the foods. Is the frost on the inside of the packaging too? If this is the case it is because the packaging is damaged, or the temperature in the freezer has dropped allowing the foods to partially thaw and they have frost has appeared when the temperature of the freezer returned to normal.

However, unless you have a frost free freezer you will always need to defrost your freezer occasionally. Click here for advice on looking after your freezer.

Thanks for you question about frozen food.
