Cooking Frozen Pies

Hello, and thank you for your frozen food question. It sounds like you need to heat up the pies rather than cook them because you say that the pies are pre-cooked. So, if that is the case, you should first defrost the pies and this should really be done overnight in the fridge.

You can then use a microwave or a conventional oven or a combination of the two in order to get a crispy / browned finish. Using foil will keep the moisture in but stop the pastry from browning. If the pastry is already browned you will want to avoid burning the pastry so do use tin foil in this case.

As for the temperature of the oven, this very much depends on the ingredients of the pies (it also depends on whether your are reheating or cooking!). So, if you are reheating, I would suggest taking it out of the oven every 5 / 10 minutes to check. It is important to ensure that it is piping hot all the way to the centre of the pie.

Thanks for your question about frozen food.
