About the New Ice Age

An informative and - we hope - entertaining showcase for frozen foods

Our aim is to show you just how convenient, beneficial and healthy the frozen food option can be for you and for your family.

These days, freezing is a familiar process and it is closer to being a 'natural' food than some of the alternatives which can use additives to preserve them. Frozen food delivers all these important benefits...

  • Food is frozen at its peak of quality - locking in freshness, taste and those all-important nutrients and minerals
  • Freezing is a natural process - with frozen food there's no need for the preservatives which can be found in other foods (room temperature / not temperature controlled) or 'fresh' foods
  • It's good value for money - frozen food doesn't go off, so it won't end up in the bin nearly as often as its 'fresh' equivalent
  • Freezing is convenient - making seasonal products (like frozen summer fruits, types of fish etc) available all year round
  • Freezing lets you use as much or as little as you want - frozen food cuts waste and helps you manage portion sizes

The New Ice Age will show you the many ways frozen foods can be incorporated into your family's lifestyle - however busy, however budget conscious and of course however much of a foodie you are. Welcome to The New Ice Age and all the truths behind frozen foods!

These photos were taken at our launch event where we created a stunning wall of ice on London's Southbank by the river Thames. We encased hundreds of delicious food items in ice to show people the beauty of frozen food. From frozen lobster to frozen pizza and from frozen asparagus to frozen cake – everybody marvelled at the beauty of frozen foods. Click here to see our ice wall at the Festival Hall.

And it need never be about either fresh or frozen. Sometimes a combination of frozen food and fresh food can make the perfect combination. For example, take a frozen pizza and dress it with fresh toppings and, hey presto! You have the perfect combination! Frozen pizzas can go straight in the oven from frozen so it will save you time too.

Our 'Ask us a question about frozen food' section is proving more and more popular. Favourite questions include: can you cook mince from frozen? how to defrost fish quickly?

Aldo Zilli using frozen food

Hi Sammie, thanks for you comments. I think we are all guilty of wasting fresh fruit and veg occasionally! But if you use more frozen fruit and veg you will reduce your wastage of food. We have some great Aldo Zilli recipe videos showing you how waste saving it is. UK households waste 33% of their fresh food and this can be eliminated by buying frozen because whatever you do not eat can go back in the freezer.
